Alice Vandecaveye has spent the last 19 years in the mental health field working with adult and adolescent populations in a hospital setting. More recently she has been working with numerous children between the ages of 6 and 18 who have been challenged with anger management issues, grief and loss, and self harming behaviors. Alice thoroughly enjoys helping these young adults sharpen their life skills in order to successfully navigate through their family, school, and life conflicts.
Alice was raised in upstate New York and came to Northwest Ohio when she was offered a scholarship to play field hockey at the University of Toledo where she obtained a bachelor's degree and then a Masters degree in Therapeutic Recreation. She obtained her Social Work License in 1994 and began her career as a Social Worker in a hospital setting. She found her passion in using her background in counseling to reaching out to others.
Recently, Alice decided to return to post graduate work, and now holds a second Masters degree from Michigan State University in Social Work. During this time she enjoyed broadening her occupational experiences in research, various clinical settings, as well as elementary schools. Her recent affiliation with the Women’s Center of Southeastern Michigan has given Alice rewarding opportunities to assist women struggling with depression, anxiety, marital conflicts and substance abuse issues.
Family has always been of great importance to Alice, as she has been married for 17 years and has two school-age children. She and her husband enjoy exercising and spending time volunteering at their church. She has been a participant and mentor for the RISEN (Re-Investing Spirituality & Ethics in our Networks) program through a local hospital. These experiences have enriched her family life as well as her career.
